After beating the crap outta my kidney this weekend I think I need a new suspension. I'm running 32" BFG's and the Jeep(90YJ) has an add a leaf with rough country shocks. Anyone recommend a good, albiet cheap, set of springs and shocks. I'm thinking 2.5" of lift would do it. I can spend up to 600(according to the wife). Any ideas? Are Rough country any good? How bout the 4wd labeled kits? I think the springs are the original and the shocks look and sound like they've seen better days(by the hard banging when I hit bumps at slow speed)As usual thanks for any help.....

Rubicon express extreme duty 2.5" lift springs.
Rough Country springs comes with kidney belts for up to 2 passengers.

Procomp es3000's are decent replacement shocks.

Have you been airing your tires down?

running about 15psi in them this weekend..The suspension hits hard even at slow speed which is why I'm thinking about replacing it.....I know at least one shock on the rear has a wallered out eye, so that's not helping at all.

Add-a-leafs are very stiff.

I have the extreme duty 4" lift springs on the front of m jeep, and I removed the bottom leaf in order to soften it up. I have rough country rear springs that are starting to sag with about 10K miles on them in the rear. If I had the money right now I'd also put the extreme duty leaf springs in the rear.

Have you heard anything about Black Diamond« 3.5" Suspension Lift, it's in my price range.....or I might just buy the extreme duty for the rear only to start(money's tight at the moment)

It looks like a very basic kit. I'm not seeing a track bar relocation bracket, but it does come with a new pitman arm, so it will probably have some decent bump steer. It looks like a run of the mill kit.

If I were you I would save my money and live with what I got until I could afford quality.
I bought cheap the first time and I have replaced everything but the front track bar relocation bracket and the rear leaf springs. Everything else has broken. I spent more money replacing the parts than it would have cost for a good kit.

Body Damage is Cool
i think it would be worth a try to put a quality spring pack in the rear only. you will spend a couple hundred tops and your ride will improve dramatically.

if i read your post correctly, you're running 2.5" add a leafs front and rear to fit your tires. add a leafs are super stiff. you have no real weight in the rear to even move the springs when you hit a bump. think of it like driving a 3/4 ton + pickup unloaded. they have stiff springs for carrying heavy loads. unloaded, the back of the truck will bounce and hop all over the place. with a load, the suspension actually works(the springs flatten/shocks dampen). hd trucks drive much better loaded.

at least up front, you have the weight of the engine on the springs. the only compression/rebound you're getting in the back is through the tires.

it's worth a shot. that's one of the 1st suspension mods i did to my cj 12 years ago. i didn't have the $ for a lift kit but my 4" springs were so stiff, the slightest sidehill would feel like it was going to roll over. i left the stiff 4" springs up front and did a spring over with stock yj springs in the back. the change was incredible. the spring over isn't an option for you because it will be too tall in the back but you can get the same result with softer springs.

another(even cheaper) option might be to take the aal out of your rear spring pack, add a 1" lift block, and get the rest of your lift by making longer shackles.

there are other options too but the bottom line is, you can get the back to work for next to nothing and your ride will improve dramatically even if you leave the front the way it is for now.
