Getting the Wheeling Fever
yesterday i noticed that my rear diff was leaking at the bottom bolt below the diff. thinking it was just loose, i tried to tighten the bolt but i ended up snapping it off. Do i need a whole new axle? is there a way to fix this?

Wow, that's a bummer.
No prob really, just get the remnants of the old one out with an easy-out or something like that. You can get a 10MM magnetic allan bolt to replace. The allan one has less tendancy to loosen up or falling out on you on the trail.
Be careful and ready to catch the gear oil once you drill out or remove the old one.

Or if you can make a good weld, weld a nut onto it then use a wrench.

Happened to me a few months back. I tried the drill/ez-out approach but the drill bit just spun the stud into the housing where it fell inside. If you have a LH bit, that might work. But be prepared to pull the 3rd out, then get the stud remant out and put in a new one (M8-1.25 - 2 different lengths), get a new one from Toyota or a junkyard axle.

19 ft.lb. per the FSM, I usually just use a short 12mm wrench and snug them up by hand.

If you gotta pull the third you may as well remove all the studs and replace with bolts through from the inside like the trail-gear set. At least this way your chances of pulling the stud out are minimal.
