Did these actually have a rear seat in them? I just bought one, and it has a little homemade bench in it that bolts to the sides. What did these actually have in them from the factory? Anyone got pics? www.carpoint.msn.com says these had optional seating for three. But wouldn't that mean you would need seat belts back there? I don't see any spots for seat belts. And what year did they actually start putting the fold down rear seats in these trucks? Help me out, trying to figure out what I should do back there when I get a chance. Thanks in advance.

Yup, all ya got was a board and nothing else except a place to put your jack kit and a duffel bag.
MAYBE-- started putting little seats back there in 89 or so.
My stuff is 1st and 2nd gen.

There's maybe enough room for a baby back there. Now you have room for a sub/speaker box, or a nice little tool kit, dont try to fit anyone back there, i dont think it would be safe in a crash.

I took that stuff out of there and put in some 6x9 speakers. First aid kit and room for a duffel for winter gear is all that fits otherwise. Even my little old Corgie while she was still alive barely was comfy back there.

Well I think I am going to put some 6 1/2 speakers in the sides eventually, as I found that there is a hole already there for them below the window. (though the hole is smaller, I will need to enlarge it) I kinda figured that bench was all there was in these originally. Not sure what I am going to do back there yet. Thanks for all the replies.

The optional third seat would have been in those with a bench seat. The rear only had the little shelf. The original oem board was a bit on the flimsy side, anything heavy bouncing around on it and it would bend. With either bucket seats or a bench seat thgere would have been no way of sitting anyone behind the seat, not even a small child could have sat back there in any kind of seat.
The first model yr that the extra cabs came with jump seats was the '89 X-cab(3rd gen 4x4 or 2nd gen X-cab). You can fit children and small adults in these seats, the seats fold down and have a shoulder/lap seat belt.
More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else. '90 X-cab 4.88's 33 BFG AT's, rr ARB, Headers, Ignition upgrade, cold air induction. '91 X-cab 5.29's 315's BFG MT's, rr ARB, custom bumper and flatbed
