Getting the Wheeling Fever
I tried going a search but it seems the search feature isn't doing what I want it to do and brings back the same posts, which aren't answering my question.

I recently took out the 3" body lift from my 85 pickup. What a B*&^% that was, including a trip to the emergency room for stitches. Oh well, I got it down, back to stock, and it drives and looks much better.
Now, before I took out the lift kit I was getting a bad clunk in the steering column when I would hit a pothole. Now the clunk is gone, but I'm getting some resistance when turning, I loosened the steering column when I lowered the truck and it doesn't seem to be putting pressure on the bearings but I can't say for sure until I get home tonite and look some more.
My question is: is there a grease fitting on the steering box or u-joints? It's the old push/pull steering box.
Or do I just take the u-joints out and grease them up really good?

Thanks

See if the steering shaft was lengthened for the lift:

Also might be the plate where the shaft passes through the firewall that needs to be re-centered. The u-joints can be popped apart and regreased if needed. Mine were getting a little notchy and after cleaning and greaseing, they operate much smoother.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Thanks again 4Crawler, last night I loosened up the clamp on the steering shaft, sprayed it good with PB Blaster and banged around on it after spreading the clamp out a little bit. Had my daughter turn the wheel back and forth and now all the binding is smooth again. I must not have moved it enough when I lowered the body back down.
I've got to remember to check out your website at home tonite, can't access "personal web pages" here at work, but looks like you've got some really good tips on there.

Thanks again.

Now, I've got two new squeeks and one rattle to get fixed. It's coming along slowly but it's gonna get there.
