its a gdi 3.5 assuming that there are no leaks in the rad and the hoses and the rad cap is working perfectly, any other reason that i am loosing significant amount of water/coolant in the rad? (sometimes after just 10kms and letting the engine cool i find that the rad already lost around 500ml of water and the expansion tank is almost full)
head gasket maybe? =(
car was never overheated, i live in a tropical country, but the problem started just 2 weeks back, and its rainy season over here.
car has clocked 55k kms. coolant was replaced at 40k and 50k.

Head gasket is a definite possibility.
I assume when you say hoses you mean the radiator hoses. Also check the heater core hoses. They may have a leak.
Does the exhaust have a slight coolant smell to it? Sure sign on a blown head gasket.
Could possibly be a bad water pump o-ring (if it's set up like the 3.0L SOHC v6). Water will accumulate in the valley between the heads and evaporate from there or drip down the back of the block, & down to the tranny.

If there is no external visible loss of coolant, I would be worried. Check your oil. Does it look like a milkshake? Even if the oil looks OK there could be coolant in it which will cause rapid wear of your engine. An oil analysis would provide some good information.

UV dye kits are inexpensive now. how do i use this dye kit? and where do i get this from? question... i fill up the rad to the brim then put the rad cap back on. then i squeeze the lower hose aggresively, it sounds like theres a leak somewhere inside the connection of the lower hose to the engine. ( it sounds like water and air passing through a small hole..pifff...) it this normal? i always assumed that if the rad is closed (and no leaks anywhere) that it is a sealed system. help me...=(

When were the hoses last replaced?
Not 100% sure but IIRC a UV dye kit should be at a local decent car parts place.

I got a dye kit from the local parts store for around $25. It's just a dye and a little UV LED light. Just get the right dye, there is stuff for oil and stuff for coolant.
Dump it in, go out at night and try to find the leak <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

That's the water pump source hose, right? IIRC...
Then the "connection to the engine" that hisses is the water pump...
Not responsible for advice not taken...

i;ve never changed the upper and lower hoses...yet.
fasteddy, so it just might be the water pump? might as well change it together with the timing belt.
heres another question, i kinda remember that theres a way to check if i need to change the head gasket, the thingy that you use to replace the rad cap and puimp in air and see if the pressure holds? whats the name of that device? or could i build my own? thanks
