Getting the Wheeling Fever
Does anyone know if an 8" LSD from an '88 Supra will fit in a '90 v6 4wd pickup?

thanks.

Not even the article entitled "Tech: Retrofitting a Supra Limited Slip into an 8 Inch Rear Axle" I posted a link to above?

Do you (or anyone) know if shortening the axles 1/8" as described in the article will effect the factory open diff if the swap is reversed? Or, once you do this swap, there is no going back (unless you invest in new axles).

Don't know for sure, but there is typically well over 1" of axle shaft inside the diff, like 1-1/8" to 1-1/2", and the very end is usually chamfered anyway, so 1/8" less should not make much, if any difference.

The LSD from an 88 Supra will do just fine. ZUK did mine actually. And no, you DO NOT NEED to cut your axle shaft. Mine is a narrow '85, my neighbors was a wider '86. Neither one required shortening. Here's ZUK's write-up on mine.

Note the bearing cup difference on one side. That's all.

We did this swap into my '86 turbo rear end last year and I've been very pleased with it. I don't do much wheeling these days, but I do drive hard on the street, and the Supra LSD rear is great for that. Stock axles fit without incident.
