ive always been a big fan of infinity reference speakers. im a big audio guy and for the price they are usually hard to beat as far as sound quailty. they do ok off of head unit power but with even a small amp they really shine.

did you go with stock size or 3way 6x9's? I am thinking of puting 3-way 6x9's in the rear eliminating stock. I am just wondering if anyone hase gone with a different size and what and where did they locate them in the rear on a 2nd gen 4runner. lemme know. Thanks.

Roll Me Over
for the past 10 years or so (1994, IIRC), i've had MB quart 218's in the doors.

both front and rear doors. although in the past 5-6 years, i completely eliminated the rear amp to power the rear doors since i dont want the image being dragged towards the rear.

plus, being single, i hardly carry any passengers.

so, that same pair has been being hammered and just in case they go out, the ones in the rear doors will just take their place...

now, if you search these forums for my opinions on speaker settings for 2nd gens (heck in all cars...), i always say get the biggest and baddest set you can get in the fronts.

after all, when you go to a live musical event, you dont turn around and face the rear.

why do you want sound coming from the rear?

in the car stereo world, 2 channels still is the king.

until multi channel software becomes the norm, STEREO is it.

now if i can, i would also place the subwoofer up front, but space is the thing, so i try to balance the crossover point between the main fronts and the subwoofer so the image doesnt get too dragged towards the rear.

so you have killer speakers up front.

now get a killer subwoofer to supplement the fronts.

then get proper matching amps to power the speakers.

that is what my vehicles have. 2 channels plus a sub.

In my last pickup, I ran four MB Quart Discus speakers along with a Rockford Fosgate sub and amp. IMO, best setup to possibly have.

In my 4runner now, I actually have the factory speakers going (all 4 are amped), and they sound great. Not as good, but... I still run the same Rockford setup for lows.

Now, I had strong speakers only in the front one time, but personally I like the sound filling the whole truck. I don't want music blaring in my face all the time. Surround sound is nice to listen to, and decreases the power/wear for the front 2 speakers.

Ideally, You do want to amp all your speakers. It prevents the speakers from playing any lows which provide a crisper sound, and allows you to run a sub. It also protects the speakers from damage.

Too close for missiles, I'm switching to guns...
