Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hey guys, I am trying to look beyond the exterior of the two types of the trucks. Can anyone help me choose the right option since I don't do any rock climbing, I just do trail with snows and gravels. I am planning to use my new truck for daily freeway driving also. Also price wise, which one is better choice? Are the long bed is worth extra money? Thanks...

I would say just do what you want. Its offroad ability and whether it is a "rock crawler" or not depends on what you do to it after you buy it. Personally I would get the TRD Offroad but I would think that is going to be more expensive. (Is the difference between the two the e-locker compared to a limited slip?)

Cut and pasted from an old thread...

There are two TRD options for this generation Taco.

The TRD Off Road package comes with all the off road goodies including the e-locker rear diff. The e-locker is probably one of the best lockers available for a Toyota and the benefit of it being installed and ready to go is a big plus. There has been a few reports of ring gear failure on the new Taco however and I'm not sure if there is a known cause at this point (been away from the boards for awhile.)

The TRD Sport package comes with more street related stuff. With this package you get the cool hood scoop (I like it anyhow) and a posi rear diff. I have to say that this posi is probably one of the tightest positraction diffs I have ever driven, I like it a lot.

I use my truck primarily for work but it does get some mild off road use for shooting, hunting and camping. The long rear overhang would probably get fairly scraped up at Moab but there is starting to be an aftermarket presence for these trucks with bumpers, sliders, lifts, etc. Starting with either a stripper or a fully loaded TRD package can work equally as good depending on how may mods you want to do...
