Anyone heard of spindle breakage?

Either IFS or S.A?
I know that rear shafts have been known to break or bend, but how about the front spindles?
1989 reg cab pickup, 22re, 31s, 4.56s, rear ARB, rear OME springs, RS9000s, otherwise stock.

personally ive never seen a spindle break or bend. axle shafts do though.

Do you mean the front CV's? Yes, they can break.

Not the CV joints but the part that sticks outboard from the knuckle that the hub rides on.
To me the metal on the spindles seems on the thin side...like it could be much beefer considering the load the spindles have to take.

never heard of them breaking. i know the brass bushings go bad in them from time to time

I know one guy who hit a bump hard enough to crack the steering knuckle on his '85 pickup but the spindle was still OK, not even bent. Might seem rather thin, but the shape comes into play as far as how strong it is.
