Ok, I am having a hard time wiring up my trailer lights. Here is where I sit.

I have the wiring connection from inside the car(beat up, and the plastic connection piece is destroyed, but I have it) Anyway, I have 5 wires within what was once a single "plug" that I believe is the wiring jack. It is coming from the passenger side(this is on a 97) It is wrapped withing the ground for the fuel pump(connected to the rear crossmember)

Now, I spent the better part of an hour trying to wire it to a 4-plug connection from Pep Boys. I have 5 wires(black, green green/red, red and can't remember the other 2) On the 4 pin I have white, yellow, brown, green. So far, I believe it goes,

4 pin Car

white black
green green
yellow one of the unnamed
brown ??????

I played around, and couldn't get it right. If I had the brown(which should be brake lights for both sides) wired to the red...the trailer lights, however don't glow bright like brake lights. I can get the signals to glow bright, but am having trouble getting the parking/brake lights to work right.

Does anyone know how this is supposed to work? What is the left over connection for? I may just have to wire it fresh...but don't really want to.

Also, the trailer works with other cars, so I know it's wiring is correct.

Also, the Haynes I have...is not very clear when it comes to this accessory wiring.

Thanks,
Steve

You need a converter for import cars. It combines the turn signal with the brake lights.

Trailer wire colors
Brown - tail lights
Green - right turn and brake light
Yellow - left turn and brake light
White - ground
