My Trooper with 168K is getting noticeably louder with engine pinging/knocking. I used to be able to alternate 1 out of every 3-4 tankfuls with unleaded plus. Now, if I'm not running unleaded plus, it reverts to pinging. What's the cause of this and what can I do? I regularly change oil, PCV, clean EGR, use Seafoam, etc. Thanks.

How about a vacuum leak?
You mentioned that you use Sea Foam. Do you just put it in the fuel tank or have you run it through the intake? If your combustion chambers are really mucked-up with carbon, maybe running some through the intake would clean more of that stuff. Does your engine burn much oil? This will contribute to carbon deposits in the combustion chambers.
How do your spark plugs look? Any signs of running rich? Oil dripping from them?

Good luck,
Phil
