remote stopped working today, battery got replaced but still no good. Anyone got ideas on how to fix? KIA dealer wants $100 to get code from ECU read, how much to reprogram key I don't know.

If it is a factory keyless entry there is a process that is outlined in the instruction manual for the keyless module that tells you how to set the code in the car's keyless module. The process takes 5 min.

Great idea, checking the user manual, why didn't I think of that? ....... Well, it tells you to enter the code or consult the dealer. We haven't got the code and we don't have a dealer who'll do it for free. Tried the 5 digit number on the back of the manual as per instructions and it didn't start. Also didn't set off the horn for 30 seconds as it's supposed to if it's the wrong code. HOW DO YOU BYPASS THIS THING!!!!!!!. What good is a computer when your 100 miles from nowhere and there's nothing wrong with the hardware, just a silly little bug in the system created by a moronic little dweeb behind a desk with nothing better to do but make my life more difficult??????

I may be confused. Are you speaking of the three button keyless remote that is the Kia factory keyless lock on US spec Sportabes. My keyless remote has three buttons, lock, unlock, and panic. There is a procedure in the manual for the keyless unit that describes how to allow the keyless module in the vehicle to learn the remotes code.

I am not trying to be a smart-ass just trying to help.

Sorry about that, I was trying to be a smarty pants!
We have a two button remote, lock and unlock. Neither button does anything anymore except make the LED turn on. It's dead. Thankfully the spare one works. There is nothing in the manual on how to re-programme the key, except to take it to the dealer. Might be my only option, unless there's an automotive engineer out there who can give me a step by step do-it-yourself guide to re-wiring the computer harness to remove it from the ignition imobiliser circuit???!!!!
