Getting the Wheeling Fever
dammit! i dont what caused it, but after an extended period of driving (45 mins), or a short time of rough driving (rpms at or over 3000) I start smoking....I really can't tell where its coming from either....I dont know if its the engine or maybe even the new tranny I just got re-built...its not really that bad, but enought to keep me from driving long distances. this is really bumming me out...It seems like im just dumping more and more money into my rig. I guees if I were more mechanically inclined, i'd be able to figure this out, but after spending $1500 on the tranny not even 1 month ago, Im just afraid of what I might get told at a mechanics shop. any tips, suggestions?

Body Damage is Cool
Is it out of the tailpipe? Or hood area? I know you said you cant tell, but with that info its really hard to give you any ideas.

color, smell, location are good indicators. If its the trans and you jsut had it done, it should be under some sort of warrantee.

Any oil on the Ground?? is something dripping??? is it a rebuilt trannie, or used, was the front seal changed. Ide start with,
Checking the trans pan gasket,
checking the bell housing for oil leaks, coming from the front seal.
check the dipstick tube seal
outputshaft seal
valve cover gaskets
intake gaskets.
trannie cooling lines.
Hose it down real good, and lay under it and watch....

Sorry for the limited info...well, the smoke is coming from the engine on the passenger side and its white....its not really noticeable while driving, but once I come to a stop, you can see it coming from that side, I opened up the hood, but couldnÆt pinpoint exactly where it was coming from...there arenÆt any oil leaks, at least no oil hitting the ground....im thinking it might be the tranny, but again, im no mechanic so I really cant tell what the smell is....and yes, the tranny is rebuilt, just got it done no more than 3 weeks ago...im gonna take it back to them on Saturday, if it is the tranny, then IÆll be covered, but if it isnÆt; well, I just cant keep dumping money on her anymore. I might just have put her away for a bit and buy something new, that wont be coming up with problems every couple of weeks. It sucks, because I really like my rodeo, but 2 people depend on her; my girlfriend and me and I just canÆt risk missing work or being stranded on the side of the road.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
update:
Could having the Trans dipstick not properly put on have caused this? I checked the Trans oil, and noticed the dipstick had tranny fluid on the outside cover, and it was not properly fastened underneath the latch....anyway, I have realized the smoke and smell was indeed tranny fluid...BTW I havenÆt had any ôsmoking problemö since I securely fastened the tranny dipstick. Im still taking her to the tranny shop, just in case, I did notice some fluid collection on the outside of the pan.

That certainly could cause it. Probably was coming out the dipstick tube and dripping onto the exhaust.
