Need a Spot
Hi guys new here. Been registered a while but never posted. I have a Jeep j-10 with a 77 model 258 I-6. It has the 1 barrel carter yf carb. Recently rebuilt carb but still having problems on angles. Everytime I get the jeep on a wierd angle it starts to flood. It is also running rich at idle. I have recently added a piece of rubber hose to extend the bowl vent tube as was suggested on the fullsized jeep forum to try to prevent flooding. What else can I do to straighten this carb out?

Have you tried rebuilding it?

From looking at your photo one would surmize you take that thing anywhere there is a BUMP to hit.. It is highly likely you have slightly bent the float hangers from these bumps and the bowl level is too deep! This will cause all the problems you describe.
Remedy: Take the top off of the carb and observe the float level.. If an old rebuild kit is available (I save many of the old used kits) apply the measuring device to the float to see if it has indeed changed positions. Bend the hanger to acquire the needed level.

Well I do take it to some rough places. Had the front drivers wheel 3 foot in the air this past Sunday. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" /> I have rebuilt carb and I think I may order a new float for it. I did not change the float at time of rebuild. I also broke a torsion bar stud on axle coming out of the trail Sunday. Here is a pic of my weekend fun. I would have done better but carb wouldn't allow it kept flooding out on me.

A new float will have to be adjusted same as the OLD one... Just open it up and bend the part that touches the needle or the arm itself .. I would bend it to lower the fuel lever bout 1/4 inch.. then see how it fares from that adjustment.

If you did not get all the balls and springs and weights in the correct places you MAY be sucking extra fuel thru the power parts of the carb..
