<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" /> Well itÆs The Second Time Around. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />

A little background;
I purchased a 1992 2wd Isuzu amigo with a blown head gasket, and warped head. I then purchased a very used 1989 4x4 Isuzu trooper for parts. Both cars had 2.6 inline 4 cylinder engines, with different transmissions.

So I had the 2.6 out of the trooper rebuilt (short block) at a local machine shop. And also had the head out of the trooper rebuilt at the same shop.

So I put it all together, and slapped it into the amigo. Mating it too the amigos, stock transmission.

I had some problems getting the timing set up correctly, and getting the idle set. But after about 3 weeks I got all of that worked out. And it ran pretty well. Although I thought it should have made more power. But thatÆs neither here nor there, sine I had no point of reference.

So at about 4k I was pulling away from a stop light and heard, along with feeling a horrible grinding sound coming from the engine bay. I stop and looked but couldnÆt see anything obvious. So I added some engine oil and drive it home. About 6-8 miles. At every stop sign it had a very hard to keep it running. I had to rev it up to about 2,500RPM to keep it going.

So after playing with it for 6 months trying my best to avoid dealing with it, I got the ôoriginalö Amigo block rebuilt at the machine shop (short block). And now IÆm going to swap out the engines. So here goes, the second time around.

Some of the previous threads;

What should I do next with my 2.6 Amigo?
Should I cut a section off the timing belt cover?
Bad idle after warm up???

Carbon build up looks normal. Especially for a rebuilt engine that was probably still buring a bit of oil before the rings seated. Exhaust valves 2 and 3 look like they got a little hot though?

What would that be indicative of?

So I pulled the engine today. Spent about 4or 5 hours on it. IÆm slacking, I know. I didn't see anything that could have been making the sound. So I guess IÆm going to have to wait until I pull the crank case oil pan to see what happened.

Well, it didn't really work the first time...
ThatÆs why IÆm doing it again. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

But really, it's not that hard. You just do things one at a time. And try to think maybe one, or two moves ahead. If you can change out an oil filter, or spark plugs, you can do an engine swap. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

As you can see, this time IÆm not working in a fancy shop. But itÆs Texas, so the weather is pretty nice. I havenÆt gotten rained on, and the heat isnÆt too bad, high 80Æs.
