A little background;
I purchased a 1992 2wd Isuzu amigo with a blown head gasket, and warped head. I then purchased a very used 1989 4x4 Isuzu trooper for parts. Both cars had 2.6 inline 4 cylinder engines, with different transmissions.
So I had the 2.6 out of the trooper rebuilt (short block) at a local machine shop. And also had the head out of the trooper rebuilt at the same shop.
So I put it all together, and slapped it into the amigo. Mating it too the amigos, stock transmission.
I had some problems getting the timing set up correctly, and getting the idle set. But after about 3 weeks I got all of that worked out. And it ran pretty well. Although I thought it should have made more power. But thatÆs neither here nor there, sine I had no point of reference.
So at about 4k I was pulling away from a stop light and heard, along with feeling a horrible grinding sound coming from the engine bay. I stop and looked but couldnÆt see anything obvious. So I added some engine oil and drive it home. About 6-8 miles. At every stop sign it had a very hard to keep it running. I had to rev it up to about 2,500RPM to keep it going.
So after playing with it for 6 months trying my best to avoid dealing with it, I got the ôoriginalö Amigo block rebuilt at the machine shop (short block). And now IÆm going to swap out the engines. So here goes, the second time around.
