Generaly 2.25" exhaust is the optimum for the 22r ,motor.
I have a 22-re and run a standard glass pack. ITs not too loud when its new, but after a year or so it gets a little annoying. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Try the Dynomax turbo muffler. They put out some great sound and are not too noisy.

The Raptor Turbo muffler from Kragens is nice sound for the price($24). I run one with headers on my 3.0, the sound is good/throaty when on the throttle, but also mellow when idling/cruising down the trail.
More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else. '90 X-cab 4.88's 33 BFG AT's, rr ARB, Headers, Ignition upgrade, cold air induction. '91 X-cab 5.29's 315's BFG MT's, rr ARB, custom bumper and flatbed

ive got a magnaflow high flow cat and a Thrush glasspack on my truck (the 24" long since the longer the pack the lower the tone) and I think its sounds pretty nice for a 4 banger. Not ricey until 4000+ nice deep mellow take offs. Glasspack was $17 and Highflow was $50. Couldnt be happier

I have a Thorley header, magnaflow cat and a dynomax muffler running trough a 2 1/4" tube. It has a great low troaty sound at < 3500-4000 past that and it gets ricy, but what do you expect from a 4bangger. It's not loud, if I roll up the windows I can listen to music fine without a ultra loud muffler. If I want to listen to exhaust, then I roll down the windows.
GOI
P.S. for people in the Denver area looking for a great muffler/exhaust shop call Brighton radiator & muffler. I got from the header flange back (cat, muffler, tube, install) for a total of $261.00. Everywhere else was $350.00 and up
