How much wght will the Tbars support on 1st Gen Troop?

Has anyone broken the tbars?Like twisting them in half?

Just a curiosity question.

TIA

They will hold alot! Back when I was in uwharrie I have a preload on them(stuped!!) they suport my 100lbs+ front bumper and winch. Just don't preload them, it makes your truck bounce all over the place , I'm sure you guy's remember my truck at uwharrie

I'm with 1bad here. I think they'll hold a lot ... as long as you use them as designed. They're designed for the rotational force applied to them. If you tried to put weight, say in the middle of them forcing downward, I'd expect it to fail easily.

and it drives fine, pretty firm. But I do have shocks from a chevy 2500 that might help some.

I'd be very surprised to ever see one break... but what you're probably more interested in is the yeild strength, or how much force can be applied and still have them return to equilibrium.

sorry I don't know the answer.

I'd say this scenerio (such as running them up on a rock) is more likely to result in total failure than any amount of weight you could add to the vehicle itself.

Huh? Your truck is always supported by the torsion bars. There is nothing else. Shocks do not support a vehicle.

As far as "how much", you will run out of suspension travel before you run out of "twist" in the bars. The bump and droop stops will only allow things to go so far. Unless you crank them such that the UCA is on the droop stop, there is no way to "preload" them. Without the stops coming into play, they will always come to equilibrium, hence, no "preload".

Yeah, I ment there is no preload on the tb's. Sorry for the confusion

I cut into one of mine a little more than an 1/8th inch with a cut-off wheel, while clumsily doing some exhaust work. I've wheeled it several times since then with no problems. Heavy bumper on the front too. I bought an extra set of T-bars in case it let go, but I don't see it happening.

when looking for a container to hold drained brake fluid, find a container that is different from the beverage you are currently consuming.

Eh guess I need to add alittle........say 700-800#'s total over stock drivetrain, some of it will be supported by the rear springs though.
We where laughing in the garage, when I mentioned hitting a bump and snapping off both t-bars and then having a low rider

Good to hear no-one has broken them.

As long as i can crank them up enough with the added wgt.

Scenario:

Since cranking them from a starting point of barely threading the bolt into the nut(like reindexing them)will get you up to almost on the bumpstops.

If the front drops a couple inches,I won't be able to reindex the t-bars anymore with out somehow "pulling down/turning the t-bar" to allow the bolt to thread into the adjuster.

Does that make scence?
