Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hello, as the title says. I did not find anything in the 2003 shop manual regarding power antenna. I have a constant drain unless I pull the dome fuse and I believe the problem is because the antenna is no longer there so when it thinks it's lowering, it never reaches the end. The motor stops but the circuit, I think, is still being feed. Is there anything easy I can do short of pulling the fender off and replacing the antenna? I have no dome, radio, time - because that fuse ties them all together. Thanks for your help and time.

I don't know if this helps. but my antena is stuck in the "up" position. the motor runs for a while each time I shut the vehicle off but then stops. No drain on the battery. I would assume the motor is thinking the same thing as if the antenna is ripped off.

Maybe your power drain is somewhere else?

Well, the dome fuse controls the clock, radio, dome lights, and antenna. So i'm assuming - because there is no antenna, I have a circut that is drawing power - but then, it's not in yours. Yes, the motor will run for an extended time before it shuts off. That's the only thing I can think of. Everything else works.

**edit - I just checked and I don't see any draw. They were using a light bulb tester and mine is an LED based tester - if that makes any difference.

**ok tried light bulb it stays on and it's bright. Looks like a drain. Pulling fuse renders the light on only momentarily (using 12volt florescent tube)

Body Damage is Cool
Why not just disconnct the antenna. That should solve the problem. The connector is under the fender, just remove the plastic inner liner.

I'm not 100% sure that is the problem. I was hoping there would be an easy connection to get to (like right kick panel) that I could unplug to see if the problem is solved. From what I understand, taking off the liner will result in breaking some fasteners and overall is a time consuming process. Will pulling out the deck and unplugging the antenna connection render the same result or is the antenna (constant) 12v source not sourced from the same connection at the deck unit? I'm assuming since unplugging the fuse while key is off renders a solution - suggests it's an "always on" source but could be the dome light circuit or the antenna - as the rest are on a keyed switch - well, that might not matter.

Pulling the inner fender liner is waaaay easier than pulling the stereo, but maybe that's just me.

Several years ago, I installed completion level autosound. I heard that I should pre-order the fasteners for the fender because one cannot escape breaking a few of them. Is that true? I know door panel fasteners break easily.

Is there really a connector at that location not a length of wire plugging into a harness somewhere else?

It sure would be nice to eliminate other circuits before pulling the fender or the radio.
