I tried this question before but the answers didn't quite fit. One of my 1997 model Sportage keyless remotes doesn't unlock the doors or immobolizer anymore. I would like to know how to get it re-programed with the right code [ it seems to function as the LED lights up as it used to and has a new battery ].
The other problem is that there is supposed to be a 5 digit code writtten on the key for manual bypass [ limp mode ]. This is not written on or inside the key. I tried the code written on the tag with the dealer info but still nothing, even after putting wrong codes 5 times and not getting the 30 second horn alarm. KIA techinfo gave me a dead end when it said to go to the key reprograming section which doesn't exist. Any help!? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> This appears to be a well guarded secret.

KIA, More dirt for ya dollar! 99 Sportage, Pod filter, Bosch Super4 plugs, electric thermo fan, racing pedals, Narva 100W driving lights, Yokhama 235/75R15 Super Diggers....getting to the rest bit by bit.

The following are the steps for programming for a transmitter for a Kia factory Remote Keyless Entry (RKE).

1. Open the drivers door.

2. Turn vehicle ignition to ON position.

3. Locate programming button. Note: The programming button is attached to the RKIE module plug under the front of the of the center console. Reach this button from the drivers side.

4. Press and hold programming button 10-15 seconds, horn will sound 3 times. Release button.

5. Press Lock button on the remote transmitter. Horn will beep 1 time. Repeat this step for any additional remote transmitters (up to four).

6. Turn vehicle ignition OFF. Test remote transmitter(s) for proper operation.

END

These instructions are for US spec keyless transmitters.

I hope this helps.
