Getting the Wheeling Fever
Anyone had any experience with the rebuild kits from Advanced Auto Parts? Toyota recommends the kit from Napa and it's twice as much. Is it worth it? Thanks.

I just did a rebuild with the AAP rebuild kit.
The kit is made by GP Sorensen.
I would have went with the NAPA kit but it wasn't in stock anywhere near me.

All told I had no problems with the rebuild and the carb works great.
So far.....

YES.
If the parts place doesn't ask you for the number off of the metal tag on the carb, run away. They're selling a generic rebuild kit. NAPA and others sell carb specific kits.

and there are two gaskets for either side of the black "heater" spacer -- you'll need them as well. they may come with the Napa kit, though, didn't with the Advance Auto one I bought all those years ago.

every 22R carb i've seen has a spacer with the gaskets permanantly glued on. i'm sure you can stack the gaskets a carb rebuild kit on it if the ones that are attached aren't in too bad of shape, but if it's old i'd recommend buying a new one from toyota.

This one (GP Sorensen) had them though I didn't use them.
I just used a micro thin spread of hi temp RTV.

By the way I drove the truck with the recently rebuilt carb today in stop and go trafic for an hour or so.
Worked great.

Need a Spot
hey guys just found this site insted of opening a new thred i'll ask my qustion here about my carb , i got 86 pick up 22R ,4 speed, two wheel drive i know it's 4X2 <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />but my 4X4 got totaled.
she idels high i tryed adjusting the mix, ideal screw and oh yeah i cleand the carb using carb clean , i changed out the fuel flter, air filter, replaced the cap and rotor, new plugs, new wires.
after bit of playing around i found the throtal is not closing all the way i can still push on it about a 1cm then she'll idel fine thinking it is a sticky butterfly valve i sprayed some carb cleaner to it to free it up. the engine stols after and there's a vacume leak from there as well.
now my qustion to you is that
1. if i were to use the NAPA carb rebulding kit would i get the new seals for the shaft for the butterfly valve.
2. Am i better off with buying a rebult one from NAPA which is about $500 CAD and beaing the student it's bit too much for me right now
any info would be grate
thanks in advance

Brownguy,

Is the return spring on the carb for the throttle the culprit? Clean up and a little lube over the connections on each side. Give 'er a try.

I'm not sure what "shaft" you are referring to as having a vacum leak. Clarify that and I'll do my best to diagnose it.

X2 on getting the more expensive rebuild kit.
