Drove up east of Logan Thursday for a little high country color and wound up riding several trails. Started off from Hyrum on the Hardware Ranch Road using the Massey/Wilson trial guide. Drove this easy trail towards the east until we accidently took a wrong turn and wound up on Strawberry Valley Trail. This turned out to be fortuitious as we almost ran into a huge bull moose exiting a pond near the trail. The trail carried us over to Bear Lake where we backtracked on the Temple Canyon trail to rejoin the Hardware Ranch trail. We then turned into Peter Sinks trail which is listed as a 3, but was really wet and muddy due to a recent snow. With all the slipping and sliding in the mud and snow, and the close proximity of tall tree trunks, I'd guess we actually ran a 5. We suffered no Trooper damage but had several close calls. Peter Sinks is a deep depression in a mountain range (tops to 8700') where cold air gathers in winter (69 degrees below zero F).
We then drove the Idaho Loop trail and once again got into snow on narrow roads near Danish Pass. Got back to SLC late in the day with a very dirty Trooper. Stock 2000 Trooper with LSD and LT245 tires did just fine all day.
Have a few pics but don't know how to add them into the post. Oh well, off to Moab tomorrow!
