Whitetoy, soem questions on cutting the factory top.
1 - what kind of tool is idea? I can imagine that a scrollsaw would give a nice straight cut, but mess and awkward as hell. Sawzall maybe?
2 - is it all fiberglass, or is there metal reinforcement in there? It's be nice to know before hitting something w/ a saw.
3 - does that piece you have flex a whole lot?

I just used a jig-saw with a fine-tooth blade to cut it. Have to be careful where to cut, so that the edges are solid, and not have a space.
Its all fiberglass, except the windows and wiper motor
The resulting piece is fairly rigid. Toyota quality.

I used a cheap 4" angel grinder with a steel cut-off wheel. Nice smooth cuts. Cover your mouth/nose though, alot of fiberglass dust created.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
My project 4runner has a half way done top. My top has the front all the way to the back of the sliders then cut. but the rear window will still slide up because I cut the back part and will fiberglass smooth.

A little off topic, but, I have a extended cab pickup and 3 kids who love to go wheelin with me. Has anyone taken the rollbar out of a 4runner and slapped it in a pickup bed along with the bench seat? It's either that or find a runner. Hmmm, sell that old car I have out front, viola, room for another Yota! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />
