I have a 1992 Toyota pickup. It is 4x4 extended cab with a V6 and automatic transmission. It has 330,000 on it and now I have a problem with the onboard computer.
The first thing I noticed is the Auto/transmission temp light started to come on. If I shut the vehicle off it would go out and everything was fine. Now the check engine light comes on and off. The Auto transmission temperature light comes on at the same time. The engine stutters and even quits sometimes. If it is allowed to sit it will work fine again, sometimes for a few minutes and sometimes days.
On one accassion the transmission felt like it was stuck in 2nd gear as the engine had no power but it was fine in reverse. If I cancell all the codes and start the motor even for a couple of seconds and then I jumper it for the error code it flashes 28 times( not the 2.. eight code) then it goes out. The real puzzeling thing is the fact the Overdrive light flashes alternatley with the check engine light. If I shut the key off and turn it on again it will repeat the same procedure. The motor has an unusall sound to it. If anyone has a suggestion I would appreciate it thanks in advance. bearbuster
