Getting the Wheeling Fever
So I left my 1998 XJ with my brother in law while I've been away with the intent he maintain it. Yeah, right! The oil is 8 months OVERDUE, his buddy tried to swap compressors for the AC and busted a bolt off in the arm that attaches it to the block, and, best of all, the hood release is broken and I can't pop the hood and start fixin this crap!
Does anyone know how to unlatch the hood when it's been broken like this? Thanks!

I'm not looking at yours...but.. most can be jimmied open from the bottom. You might want to find one like yours and open it up and see what you have to do from the bottom to pry or otherwise make it open.

Body Damage is Cool
Remove the plastic grill, 4 screws at the top,2 on each headlight surround. You'll see the latch, then punch your brother in law and it should open just fine.
