I found a 1990 4Runner that has been sitting for 3-4 years and is claimed not to start. What should I look at prior to purchasing a vehicle that has sat for that long? I'm not very familiar with the V6, but I know the rest of it quite well as I had a 1989 pickup with the 22RE. Would it be safe to try to turn the motor over or should I do something first?
Thanks

Probably at a minimum pull the spark plugs and give each cylinder a squirt of oil. Then try cranking the engine over w/o the plugs in to see if it'll turn over and if the oil pressure will come up.

Drain all the fluids, including the gas. Shoot oil down into the cylinders, as mentioned above. You might want to try turning it over for a while (no plugs) until you get an indication of oil pressure.
After 3 years, the fuel may be in bad shape...
