Hi, I recently rebuilt my 1988 Trooper II engine, and I am now hooking the transmission back to the engine. There is one bolt hole that doesn't seem to want to thread in. This bolt is the ONLY one that threads into the transmission from the engine side, all others go directly into the engine block. I am wondering, could this be some strange american thread? I tried going to the junkyard and threading one of my bolts into a similar transmission there, and it did the same thing, it just doesnt feel right. Any help would be very appreciated.

I know some engines use pilot dowels and there is often a hole but no threads. Did you take hardware out of the hole or did you just notice it was missing?
disregard that you are talking 2.6 motor right? I thought GM.

If it's the one I think you are talking about, it's a coarse thread bolt, unlike all the others, which are fine thread. If I'm not mistaken, it's on of the starter bolts.

IF IT IS THE LOWER BOLT ON THE STARTER IT IS A 10 MM BY 1.5 MM THREAD PITCH, THE SAME AS THE STUD ON THE TOP OF THE STARTER WHERE IT THREADS INTO THE TRANNY CASE ONLY TWO ON THE ENG OR TRANS ATTACHMENT BOLTS THAT ARE 1.5, JERRY

Awesome guys, thanks, I was just out there trying to fix it and I found that bolt. A little bit of a small distinction if you ask me, but I guess next time i'll sort the bolts out better. Thanks again, that really helped.
