Getting the Wheeling Fever
ok ive read the archives. what is the highest road worthy suspension lift on a gen 1 lwb? 2 1/2 is the highest ive seen and is what i have. what would be involved if i wanted to remove or modify the frame stops to allow for more travel. what else would i need to make or have made. i want to get off 33"s on on 37"s. i already have a 2" body lift so i would like to get at lest 2" more in suspension. maybe ive missed it in the search. also who has the highest lifted gen 1 lwb currently? one more thing. are air shocks the final end all for the bottoming out in the rear?thanks Tim

I think someone here with a D50 is running a 4" body lift, and he can fit 35's.

I dont know how much lift I have but I think it is more then 2.5 . I did cut my bumpstops as you suggested to get more out of it. Then the tops of my wheels leaned in after I cranked them real far. So I changed my upper control arms to 96 montero upper control arms and that allowed more lift and leveled my wheels out. Still though 35s I think are the biggest I have seen on any trucks in the US.

Or if you want more you might try a lift kit. Sadly I dont know the name of it but a guy on this forum by the Name of DC has it on his Montero Sport. It to may fit a gen 1 but I dont know. I think you could fit 37s easily then.

Find a d44 and solid axle swap. You could go as high as you want.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

I think if you want the suspension to go that far you would be blowing out cv joints frequently. Speaking of cv joints that was another good thing that came about from the gen II arms. Since it fixed my camber it also helped my cv angles.
