I searched but couldnt find anything. How do you drain the coolant on my 89 2.6 trooper. I can see the little thing to turn to release the coolant but i dont know where it comes out at. It seems like the front skid plate is in the way. Really cant see stuff that well because of the skid plate. Didnt really want to make a mess and open the bottom hose.

It will come out the drain plug, just not a nice steady stream. Remove the skid plate, it's just a few bolts. then you can drain without making too much of a mess with a wide drain pan.

If you leave the skid plate on, it comes down in 1000 little streams. Consider yourself warned.

You don't have to take the skid plate off.

Take a piece of cardboard box and cut it about 10-12 inches
long and about 5 inches wide.
Fold it in a U shape and make a channel out of it.
Slide it up under th drain spout and put a pan underneath
that is capable of holding 3 gallons or so.
Use the cardboard channel to direct the anit-freeze over
the skid plate and in to drain pan.

Been doing it this way for a long time.

You guys are waaaaayyyyy over thinking this.

Go to the hardware store. Get some 1/2" or so plastic tubing. 12-24" will do. Crack the valve and put the tubing on. Then open the whole thing up. Nary a drop is spilt. No mess, no soggy cardboard, no coolant in your hair.

Put the tubing on what?

There isn't a drain nippled on these trucks and
on mine, a 1/2" tube wouldn't fit over the ears on the
plastic screw valve. The valve comes out half way and dangles.

I've never spilt a drop or got it in my hair doing it with the cardboard.

Ooooh, you have one of those petcocks where it is flat with the ears.

On mine, there is a small round extension beyond the ears that is about 1/2" in dia. Hose fits on there nice...

Cool... Haven't seen the extension on them.

The ears are nice until a few years get on them and they
get brittle.... then break off when you try to remove the plug.
