Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hey guys, first post, I just bought a 92 Montero 4x4 base model. I will crank the torsion bars up to level it out, and do a 1 inch bodylift on it - what tire can I fit on there with the stock 15 inch wheels? Will I be able to fit a 32 with out rubbing? Thanks!

Hello Robb and welcome to the 'Wire. You should be able to fit a 32x11.50 tire on factory 15x7's without modification. I know many of the folks with mid-90's SR's have run 33x12.50's on a stock (or only slightly cranked) rig. I cranked the torsion bars only an inch or so and I run 33x12.50's. I'm not sure about the rim width or offset on a base 1992, so if they're only 6" wide you may want to consider a tire narrower than 11.50. There are a variety of opinions on the best tire width vs. rim width combination. Personally, I think a 15x7 and 32x11.50 would be fine. My 33's are on 15x8's. I'm sure others will post and give you their opinion.

Thanks . The tires stock on here are tiny 235/70/15 = 28inch tire, looking at this truck and doing a few half a$$ measurements, it looks like I would be lucky to fit a 31 inch tire on there.

Here is a pic of the truck in question, I want to use the wheels on it, that I assume are stock

Rob,
Here's my '92, with no lift, and stock wheels. You can see that there's all kinds of room left with 31s. I'm buying 33s this time around.

That looks great, did you crank the torsion bars in the front?

Man, I'm embarrassed to say that I don't KNOW what width those wheels are. I had long thought they were 7". But I saw an auction on Ebay for a set like mine and they said they were 6". Mine are the same white steelies, I just painted mine black 6 years ago. I'm only going to get 10.5 width tires, so I shouldn't have to worry about it. Very slight crank on the Tbars...less than an inch. I'm going to crank them further after I put on the 33s, and get by like that until I can "schedule" a 2" body lift.

Isn't the correct stock size tire 235 75 15? The 75 would make it a bit larger diameter over the 70 size tire. No?
