Need a Spot
I've decided at the last minute that I'm going to drive my Gen1 out to Fayetteville WV for their "Bridge Day Festival" ( www.officialbridgeday.com ). That's an 6 - 7 hour drive each way and with 200K folks attending I'm certain there's not a hotel room open for miles around! I decided to completely remove the rear seat so that I can stuff a twin futon in the back (It should fit perfectly).

I removed the front "caps" that hide the front of the seat rails and found out how to slide the square retaining pins out of the way. This allows the whole seat to slide forward but not enough to allow removal. I'm begining to suspect that they only slide forward enough to allow access to the large bolts that fasten the rails to the floor. Is this the only course of action, removing the large botlts and completely removing the seat rails or am I missing something??

Thanks,
Bob

You didn't miss anything. That's how they come out.

2 17mm bolts in the back and 2 14mm bolts in the front.

Get help pulling it out. I can bear hug it to move it around but it's pretty tough and awkward for one person to move it around inside the truck.

My solution for a 90 Gen I LWB rear seat removal:

[Linked Image]

Replaced the pins (2 on drivers side, 1 on passenger side) in the hinges with 5/16 inch by 2 inch clevis pins, secured by cotter pins. You can get the clevis pins at Home Depot, Lowes, or a hardware store. In the "big box" stores, they are in the drawers that have all the specialized hardware. I don't remember if the original hinge pins were bolts or if I had to grind them off with a Dremel.

All you have to do to pull the seat is take out the cotter pins and pull the 3 clevis pins. Don't have to unbolt anything else.

The horizontal seat track remains on the floor. For our purposes this never was a problem.

Unfortunately the Gen IIs have each second row seat bolted down by 4 bolts so you have to unbolt all 8 to pull them out. However, handling one of the Gen II seats is a bit easier than the long Gen I seat
