Getting the Wheeling Fever
i was offroading today on cape cod. where i find a poor jeep xj lifted wiht 33s stuck in the sand. after pulling him out i mess around a little bit and go home.

Truck. 91 pickup... 3.slo.. automatic.. lifted blah blah blah.

so i'm drivin home and then i notice my oil temp is gone and my gas is totally empty... that cant be right. i pulled over and check every fuse. but they all looked good.. then as i was leaving i noticed that when i apply the break and try to shift from park to drive it dosent unlock the lock. and it took a few times to get the engine running cuz the battery light came up.. i am going to try a new battery in the morning and check all connections evverywhere.. any tips?

Check the ground point in the drivers side kick panel. Should be two white wires with black stripes going to a loop that's bolted to the metal. If that has come loose, it could cause what you're describing, since that's the main ground point for the cluster.

For starters, it's an oil pressure gauge, not temp.

Secondly, all those gauges share a common ground point, so it's about a one in one bazillion chance that all the senders failed all at once.

Take the kick panel off by the clutch pedal (below the fuse box) and check the ground point there. It should be securely attached.

If that doesn't solve it, you'll probably want to pull the cluster and check the wiring going into it.

The gauges are basically ohm meters and the sending units are variable resistors. You can test the resistance of the senders. If they are in range, then there is no reason to replace them and the problem is in the gauge cluster. To test the gauges, you can tap the leads to the senders together and see if the gauges jump. (I've never done this, so someone correct me if this would damage the gauges, but I don't think it would)

THIS TEST WILL PERMANENTLY DAMAGE YOUR OIL PRESSURE GAUGE!!!!!

Check the ground, as previously posted.
