Have a donor/project 92 4Runner with new brakes that I'd like to swap onto my '87 Runner. I see the caliper on the 92 is slightly longer. Mounts look same as do rotors. Are these interchangeable or do I need to swap more than meets the eye?

I know the V6 calipers are longer than the 4cyl calipers. Maybe the newer ones are off a v6? If so, they are a slight upgrade as the pistons are bigger.
I recently bought new v6 calipers and pads for my 4cyl (along with a fj-80 master cyl). I had to grind about 1/2 inch off the dustshield at each end of the caliper and they bolted right up. If you do this just be careful not to nick the rotor while grinding.

Thanks for the quick reply. That's what I figured as the longer caliper may interfere with the dust shield. Both trucks are 4cyl rigs and the newer caliper has cooling fins. I'll swap them over tomorrow and report back on my findings afterward.

The newer caliper has the large style pistons, regardless of the engine that it came with.
Putting them in a rig that came with the smaller piston calipers and changing nothing else will work and you will get increased brake power, but the pedal may feel a bit softer than before.

Thanks ErikB. That's exactly what I found. Pedal feels very slightly spongy compared to the old style calipers, but power is noticeably better.
I had to remove all of 1/4 inch from each side of the dust shield to allow the swap.
