Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have a Montero '94 with 3.0 auto. Lately I noticed that transmission doesn't go into overdrive. The switch on shifter seems to work, because the OD light goes on and off if I play with switch, but no change in gear on highway speed. Does anyone know what could be the problem and is there any easy fix or something to try? Transmission oil looks clean, and doesn't smell burnt. All other gears shift good and don't slip.

Use the search - this problem has been beat to death a number of times. The most likely cause is the temperature switch on the thermostat water box.... ground the wire to the switch and see if the O/D works. If it does, the switch is bad..... or the thermostat isn't letting the engine come up to operating temperature.

Thanks FrankR, it was a temp switch connection problem. Working great now. I wish all the problems would be solved so easily...
