I've replaced the speakers in my 1989 without issue. The fronts are 4" speakers, and the rears I want to say are 6.5". If there are no screws holding the grill on, then it most likely has plastic locking pieces, just gently pull and it should pop off. In the kick panels (sides of the truck in front of the doors) there are 4 screws that held my stock speaker grill on.

The rear speakers in these trucks came in 3 different locations... The side panels in the cargo area (one each side), the rear doors (one each door), and there was a high mounted set in some Troopers that were mounted in the upper rear corners of the cargo area. Which of those three are
you referring too?

the rear speakers are on the rear doors.

My question for the front speakers is, is it manditory to take the dash out <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> prior to getting the speakers out? My guess is 'probably'

My question for the back seems to have been adressed in an earlier thread, I'll see if I can't slide the plastic to the side.

thanks

You shouldnt need to take the dash aprt to get to the ones one the Kick Panel, It can be a bear to get to but its much easier than Ripping th dash apart. The Fronts are 4"s With some Modification you can fit 4 1/2's without the magnet hitting the metal. just use the existing grill and mount the speaker to the grill. Rears are 5 inch but with some homemade Spacers you can fit 6.5's. Just trace the OUTSIDE of the Speaker and cut the Inside about 3/4" to 1 inch from the trace, trim to fit. Spray Paint Black or cover in matching carpet. Its really not hard just takes some time, made from 3/4" MDF, Works and sounds great. The Troopers have really got noisey Panels where the Speakers are located, To Cure it I recommend putting like DynaMat Or something similer to Keep it from resonating and making it so you cant hear the music. I did this 3 hours after I was done Installing all my audio equipment. I had to crank the stereo to get somewhat good sound from them. As far as I know the is 4 screws that hold each speaker on, You might have to see if you can pull or pry the grill off with a flat blade screw driver. mine were screwed down. Ill have to get Pic If you dont know how or need to see how Ive done it. I have about 8 years of installing experiance on mine and friends Vehicle's. Both 4.5's and 6.5's are more common than most other sizes and you can get good quality speakers at Wal-Mart, ect...

speaker swap complete, used the stock sizes. Blaupunkt's I ordered from Cruchfield. Dynamat would be cool, but not this go-around. Sounds much better.
