Injectors ~ 200.-
bigger turbo ~ 800.-
FMIC ~ 900.- not necessarily needed but if for a truck, yes
bigger Diesel pump used ~ 400.-
Software ~ 300.-
Gas mileage avg. 48mpg, lowest I ever had is 44.
For our type of trucks it would be a nice swap. Not so much for 4x4s because of the turbo. It has a large power band but once boost picks up, there is no turning back from 2K on up. It wouldn't be a crawler, too difficult to tame.

The TDI would be nice but it would seem to me a larger NA engine would better suit the yota. I'm sure the 44mpg will quickly turn into low 30s in a small truck. Not that is wouldn't be worth doing or even really cool.

In any case, low 30's > mid-high teens, and you get great torque to boot!

I *could* look into the availability of the euro-spec ECU and injectors over here... Shouldn't be too bad out of a j-yard, and this would eliminate the need for a lot of the other stuff.

I have driven the euro 1.9 and 2.0 TDI engines (2.0 not available in the US), and they are MUCH stronger than 100/180, yet still get 40 mpg at 100 mph!

If anybody is up for the swap, I can get the much more powerful ARL motor (PD) with stock 150 hp and 250ft.lbs for roughly $ 2500.-. I'm dealing with Diesel parts from Germany to the US for some tuning companies and anybody that is interested in it.
With just chipping it, you're already in the 180hp range and lots more torque but how do you get it registered?

Abigial and I are doing the swap the first week of January. We are using a VW TDI engine with 31,000 miles that we are taking out of a buddies wrecked Jetta, he cut us a deal on it @ $200.
Thus making our total swap cost around $800-$900. Not including the WVO kit.
The bonus is the great Mods to increase torque and HP that are available. But the torque the stock VW TDI or Turbo Diesel engine offers,for those of you that daily drive up and down hills, is an amazing increase over the 22re. We are not going to Mod our engone just yet.

For us the major bonus is the WVO/SVO kit we are going to install thus keeping fuel costs way low. I call it near zero, sure there is fuel to pick up the fryer oil and time plus the machine to prcoss the WVO but as much as we drive it will pay for itself quickly.

Please keep us up to date with lots of pictures / updates of progress / $ / parts number and details of all the necessary parts as well.

Working parttime at a hotel + seeing all these oil, I am really looking forward for run wvo on my truck!

Huh if a swap could be done for under $3k with locally available parts then it might deffinately be worth while. I can't believe that a VW diesel engine can be had for cheep though.

Hey Mojo, I just want to second that you do your own build up thread on this, I think that many here would follow in your foot steps and that you'd be quite the trend setter!

A small 4cyl diesel seems to make so much sense in a compact truck that I can't believe nobody's made one for the US market since the late 80's.

Abigail was already planning on taking lots of pictures. And I will make sure to document and take pics off all parts and pieces before they are put on and during installation.
In a week or so I will post the CAD of the motor mounts. We are going to use our friends CNC machine to make the mounts. The drawing should allow you to give the file to your local shop.
On the engine side of things, while looking for a motor we contacted several salvage yards and we were finding low mileage TDIs' for $500-$800.

In regards to the WVO/SVO system: there are so many versions out there and everyone has its advantages and disadvantages. We are looking at both the single tank and dual tank system. I like the single tank because you do not have to purge your system but there are still some unanswered questions for me there. Rather than go into my stupid rantings I will just post some links to sites.
