I took the beast wheeling this weekend and I am happy with it but there is one major problem.
Reverse sucks what is the reverse ratio in the 4l3oE .80 <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />
I was in 4 low and was unable to back up over a rock once it just sits there and revs to 2000 and does nothing in first it will smoke all four tires trying to climb a rock.
What do I need to do I'll end up on a trail and be in trouble because reverse is to weak.
Put it in tera low 3.07:1's but will that be enough
throw the 4l30e in the garbage and do a MUA5
put in a 700r4 with a D300

Not sure if the Isuzu's are the same but looks more like 2.00:1 for reverse.
A locker of some sort will help in both directions. If you are revvin gup to 2000 rpm, it sounds more like a traction issue than a tranny issue.
Gear Ratios: 2.40:1 1st gear 1.479:1 2nd gear 1.00:1 3rd gear 0.723:1 4th gear 2.00:1 reverse
Optional Gear Ratios: 2.86:1 1st gear 1.62:1 2nd gear 1.00:1 3rd gear 0.723:1 4th gear 2.00:1 reverse

its not a traction issue that just the stall on the torque converter it was not moving the tires in reverse it doesn't have the power to spin the tires in reverse because reverse is geared to tall

This is a common complaint for the 4l30. It has a bad reverse ratio. I've also heard something about the reverse gear doesn't get as much line pressure or doesn't have as many clutches, I forget. Get teralows. Or 5.38s. Or an mua5, then you can back over stuff, and you don't have to worry about it kerploding.

My bad, I saw the "smoke all four tires" comment and didn't realize that he was referring to forward.
The difference between forward and reverse ratio is not that great, I am surprised that there is that big of a difference in performance.
Lowering the t-case gearing will not change the symptom, it will just allow the torque converter to lock up at a lower SPEED (not RPM).
