hey y'all......saturday night id just left the ranch headed to the border. Was in a hurry on a lil county road n doin bout 60 before a dip(texas...on a back back road its a nasty concrete ditch lol)downshifted an did 35 thru it,still bounced around some......right after that i went around a corner FULL of potholes..if ya hit it wrong ya just bounce in skitter around the corner........n right n that corner my truck stalled......wont start, cranks over kinda fast....no spark, checked the plug wires then the distributor.....a mechanic buddy says its prolly the timing belt cuz it cranks fast n no spark......i'm really kind of lost because i've never had to work on ignition or timing on this truck before......and i never checked the coil cuz i got sick LOL jus a bad weekend all around its a 91 sr5 xcab 4x4 3.0v6 stick, with 192k....i bought it with 130k and never messed with the timing .......im afraid the info i gave is pretty vague....any ideas would be appreciated tho thanks y'all

If the previous owner didn't change the belt---- Does the dist. rotor turn when you try to crank? If not, that's the quick n dirty answer. http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/maintenance/timing_belt/ and We also have the 93 FSM sticky'd here that'll get you in the ballpark. Just remember it contains both 3.0 and 22RE info.

Just use the FSM. Like was stated, take off dist cap, have a buddy turn the key and see if the rotor spins.

did that...the rotor does spin.....sooo that eliminates the timing?? from what i understand that narrows it to the coil or possibly ignition control module?? how would u test to see if its the module??i see how to test the coil..jus gotta dig up a ohmmeter...thanks

I had the same problem about a month ago. I was drivin' along and all of a sudden the truck stalled and wouldn't restart. Turned out to be a dead rotor! Might try that if your coil and module check out OK. Check your dist. cap for cracks, too! Doubt I helped any, but it's fun to try!

Similar situation, my brother's '95 stang, was running fine, then suddenly quit. Rotor turning, but no spark to the plugs. Pulled off the distributor cap and the little pickup magnet was floating around in there. Anyway, had to pull the whole distributor, press the gear off of it to change the little pickup coil. Runs like a champ now and the part cost like $10 but we couldn't figure it out for about 2 weeks.
