Check the idle speed. Maybe it is set too low. Jeff

I had a mazda that would do that, and sometimes just die for no reason. I took the ignition switch out, cleaned it and it never happened again. Not too sure otherwise, I'm anxious to see the cause! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

U might check with a transmission shop and see if your truck has a torque converter look up solenoid. If so then that might be your problem. I see this in the American built cars all the time.

its idling at 750 and timing is right, i didn't caught the idle when my a/c is on. i think there a vacuum leak but i can't find it. it happens when the engine is warmed up too. well if i had the a/c on and start the car, it would start but die right away.

The AC should have a working VSV valve that engages fast idle when the AC gets turned on. It's a fairly common failure point - there is documentation on how to test it in the manual... Not related to your tranny engagment issue though.
I don't know much about the automatics. Does anyone know if the automatic rigs have something similiar to advance idle against the load of being put in gear?
