Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hello all, my timing chain on my 22re is gonna go soon and i was wondering where (preferably in canada) would be some good places to get a new good quality timing chain kit. Thanks.

Not in Canada but Ted at Engnbldr.com has good quality components for a reasonable price. Along with all the parts/gaskets needed to do the job.

(If it's gonna go soon, better get it replaced fast. It's my understanding that the pistons will smash into the valves if the timing chain breaks)

I bought a kit from engnblder through ebay. Good quality stuff. Included everything but the RTV. I did have a slight issue getting the tensioner installed. The OEM one had a slight taper on the oil inlet, the new one didn't. I had to taper the tip slightly with a file. It may have been something particular to my block (88). I'd recommend the kit with the steel backed guide. Be prepared to drop the oil pan to retrieve pieces of the plastic OEM one.

go to eBay Canada and search for ENGNBLDR.
He has listings there for the timing kit with the steel/rubber rail.

They sure will. I am living proof of that.

Notice the silver mark on each intake valve where the piston hit it. It was an expensive lesson.

I have had two different occasions where the pistons should have slapped the valves. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />
One time the cam locating pin sheared . That should have done it.
Second time the chain broke! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
Both times I was fortunate and only needed to replace timing kits and the pin.
