Guys, I'm looking at a 2001 Taco, SR5 Pre-Runner, 4-door, V6 auto, with what they tell me is a factory-installed SnugTop shell. It has 89K miles on it . It looks nice, but what should I look out for on this? They're asking $12K (dealer) Whadya think? Thanks, Corona

12 grand for a 5 year old 2WD sounds a little high. I'll Manheim it for you real quick...

Surpirisingly, no it isn't. Looks like average retail is 12,900, and going at auction for 11,878. If you want, I can do a Midwest regional search. EDIT- There is no transaction or auction data, menaing none of these have gone through the lanes at Manheim auctions recently- which I find hard to believe- especially the 32 laner in Manheim, PA. Midwest with proper mileage:

Guys, I went and drove the truck this morning, and it drives well for a truck with 89K miles. The body is kinda roughed up a bit, with several paint scuffs and one small dent/scratch on the side of the bed. Overall, a nice ride. However, I get a bad vibe from this dealership in general. When I first got there, it had snowed a little, and the truck was cold. Instead of taking me out to start it up, the guy said he'd bring it around to the front where I was, like he didn't want to let me hear it clatter when it started, or something. I dunno, I just felt like there was a story with this thing that they weren't letting me in on. You know how when you ask about the thing, and everybody in the place shoots glances at each other, but won't look you in the eye? Anyway, I've trusted my gut for 41 years, and it's yet to let me down, so I thanked them for their time, and walked away. I'll keep looking. Corona

89K it'll still be a solid truck. Mine (1999) has 168K on it now, and runs strong. Hope you find something!

Good for you.
I bought my 99 4R as an impulse buy this summer; 2nd owners only had it for 2 months. Thing was a grocery getter up to this point. 2.7L plain Jane with 5 spd and cruise, 166K miles, for $10K. Still had the original dealer frame and pouch, with all the owner's manuals.
Just keep your eyes peeled, and remember we get some good trucks thru here too in the F/S section.
