Have any of you guys tried this before? I never really heard of it, but I've know when a motor that has a bad HG, and a cylinder is sucking water it's very clean compare to the other cylinders not sucking water. A old timer at my work told me about it, I read a bit of it on the net and then sucked down 8oz of water into my supra and beleive it or not the thing runs much better. This next time I plan on using a spray bottle and removing the air filter and spraying into the air duct as the engine is running (@ operating temp) and with a fast idle. Anybody really know a lot about this?
only thing I've seen, is on a 70's 454 a buddy had in High school. had water injection permanently set up to suck a very small amount of water.

I'd be carefull about spraying water directl into the intake. For one thing, everything up to the AFM, which is usually on top of the air filter has to be intact and sealed for the engine to still run. Another, you don't really want water getting into hte AFM as it could corrode the electronics inside and then you'd have problems.
I don't know about the wisdom of using water verses something like seafoam, but I'd still just use a vacuum hose and meter the amount getting in.
The last time I did this, I created so much smoke, everyone thought my garage was on fire. I'd like to do it again, but I don't want a visit from the local FD.

The last time I did this, I created so much smoke, everyone thought my garage was on fire. I'd like to do it again, but I don't want a visit from the local FD. Pull into the neighbor's driveway. Then pull into your yard and shut the engine off when you hear the sirens.

I don't think you would hurt anything if you tapped into the rubber hose very close to the plenum....a small dia metal or plastic tube that attaches to some vac line that goes into your cab into a simple 1 gal milk jug with water in it. The eng vac will pull the water into the plenum at a controlled rate. A run down the highway and see what it does. I bet it cleans the heck out of it.

I de-carbon my engines by running a good named fuel (Chevron), a heavy right foot (to the redline) in all the gears. The water does work; the local Cadillac dealer used to do it to stop the pinging and run on the CaddyÆs that the little old ladies drove. As was stated above, I would not spray it in through the MAF or what ever it is called.

As a previous fan of "boost", I did some experimenting with water injection to control pre ignition. Also, as a previous fan of "Boost" I did a lot of motor rebuilds because of "Boost". A water injected motor will come apart as clean as it went together. I currently have a water injection system on my Powerstroke diesel and will tell you it has much more power with the system than without it. A stock gas motor with a water injection set-up would have increased power and beter fuel economy. http://www.coolingmist.com/

I'd love to try the water approach, but I'm scared to do it. I've been using Seafoam instead for a few years. All it does is smoke the living hell out of the neighborhood. I get a good giggle out of it when I start driving. I haven't noticed the pinging getting any better though. If I could inject the Seafoam from a button on the dash to give a smoke screen as needed during my commute I'd be a happy guy.

A old timer at my work told me about it,
this is a trick my Dad taught me many years ago...he would loosen the fan belt a tad so the motor would overheat (not too much) and slowly pour the water down the carb (in small amounts) [color:"red"] A WARNING though... water (turns to steam) does not compress like gas/air... so yu gotta be careful or u will blow da ting up [/color] Water injection has been arround since the 40's but as some people have pointed out for power reasons....The British used it on their fighters to gain an advantage over the German fighters.....

It works, but you have to be careful because too much liquid at once can crack a piston. Also, depending on how that carbon comes off the pistons and valves, it could lead to problems with the catalytic converter getting plugged up. That's why I prefer a nice, hot ignition system to keep the combustion chamber clean.

How do you do water injection on a NA engine? Is there a pretty simple way to set it up or is it pricy?
