Roll Me Over
Wondering how much rotational play our Dshafts are supposed to have? I have a '94 V6 3rd, with 5.29's and a Detroit locker. I could of sworn I've read around the net it's supposed to be 30-45* roughly of rotational play. I eyeballed mine tonight and it's probly very close to 90*; 1/4 turn. That seems high to me. and When I take my foot off the gas pedal i hear a clunk. is this a locker issue or backlash issue with the gears?

Getting the Wheeling Fever
check the u-joints, if any play in the u-joint(s) then replace all the joints in that shaft.
pull the pinion end of the d-shaft off.
check pinion play, should be a minimal amount of play there (~.008" rotational play)
the t-case should have a small amount of play as well, the 30-45 deg you spoke of.
ratcheting lockers will clunk (lockright, aussie, ezlocker) on occasion. mine sounds like i snapped a axle once in a while lol.

A buddy of mine had a detroit in his 4Runner and he had a LOT of backlash, so I think it's the detroit.
