Ok, as the topic says, I need a quick lesson on leaf springs. The second leaf in my right rear pack snapped today going down the road, and I need a new set ASAP.
I'll be searching the junkyards this weekend, but I need to know what springs will fit. It is an 87 4Runner... But 4Runners weren't sold here until 1988. I am thinking the following will fit, but I need a little help in the international parts trade to figure out if they will work:
1985-19?? Hilux 1988-1989 4Runner
Remember, anything I find will have been sold in the EU market, and equipped as such.

The leaf springs on the 89+ pickups are 3" longer than the earlier trucks. All of them are 2.36" wide. I would just look for anything with the same width and a similar length if you cannot find the exact leaf you are looking for.

The Hilux did not evolve at the same pace as the NA Toyotas.

well if for some reason you find out they fit.. i've got a pair of '89 4x4 US Pup rear leafs that i built from some chevvy leaves + 2 toyota mains/mil wraps that i bought from 4crawler
they may need to be rebuilt but at least you'll have the Mains and a bunch of extra leaves to work with. if i remember correctly they were gettin kinda tired.
have poly bushings from 4crawler in them too ;o)
...actually now that i think about it mebbe i should put those bushings in the current truck lolz

I had TWO of my Springs Snap (one on both side, same spring, same trip as a matter of fact) I went junk yarding and looked for a good set of Springs. Then put both springs together. So I ended up with an add-a-leaf + a small spring lift when I chopped off the ends of the extra Streight long piece and put that stub peice on the bottom of the pack, it acts like a small spacer and gets rid of the sag. I needed longer U-Bolts/center spring pack bolt. Did it all for less than $200.00 which was less than a re-arching or new springs.
I know getting the original springs off SUCKS @$$. My bolts were rusted to the spings & nut on the other side. It was nothing a hacksaw couldn't fix.
Got my springs from yota-yard hear in Denver. $88.00 a pack I think. You have to be carefull, there are some good spring packs there with no other half.
So you may be able to get any year spring pack then blend them togeather, they are the same width. Just as long as you didn't break the one spring that bolts to the truck, otherwise you may have to find the right springs.
Good luck with it, GOI

Ok, here's the rest of the situation:
1. Junkyards with Toyotas are few and far between. I'll be lucky to find one truck in a month of steady searching (language barrier doesn't help matters any, either).
2. I have little time or facilities to start swapping springs within the packs. I need a "plug and play" set this time around.
3. Shipping springs internationally during the Christmas season is out of the question. If lucky, I would get them for Valentines Day.
So, would 86+ Hilux rear springs work, and what is the latest year that would work?

I found out a bit more today...
The reason junkyards have no Toyotas here... They are all shipped to Greece and Africa for parts when totaled. The demand is much higher there.
The only EU market springs to fit would be off of the 85-88 VW Taro pickup (it's a Hi-Lux, just badged VW to combat the fierce anti-Japanese consumers in the 80's). The Hi-Lux pickups had a 7 leaf pack, yet my 4Runner has a 5 leaf pack.
The measurements would be 60mm wide by 1200cm long. It is 530cm from the front eye to the axle center, and 670 from the axle centerline to the rear eye.
There is an aftermarket version sold here for about $450, and I might go with that.

try OME stockers, those are cheap.
try a chevy or an f150 spring swap-it can never hurt. If you can find a wrecked domestic truck. fab a new hanger and a shackle, get new u bolts. could be cheaper than finding toyota junk.

Yea I was thinking that too. Not only would it fix your problem but it would make the truck better . The 7 leaf pack is prolly cause the truck there was a 1ton and 1/2 in NA only real difference being the springs IIRC. THe 7 leaf pack should work and if you have bum sag on your runner then they could fix that too. Unfortunately the flex would likely suk big balls, hehe.
