Hey guys,

A friend of mine just bought a Hilux with an 8" rear diff. It has a locker however there are no wiring connections or motor that would indicate a TRD locker. We need to figure out what it is. He showed me another just like it out of the housing and I don't think its stock. The dealer told us it was stock but I have never heard of any diff like this from Toyota out of or inside the USA. I took a quick gaze and there was no evident side or spider gears however I did see what appeared to gears inside of the locker. It's pretty bulky so I'm thinking Detroit but I'm far from certain.

Any ideas guys??

TRD offered a limited slip, it could potentially be one of those. People who are not wheelers often call limited slips "lockers". Can you post photos of it?

You didn't mention the year, but Toyota did offer limited slips on Hilux trucks outside the U.S.

This is what the Hilux LSD looks like.

Most likely that's what it is...a factory Hilux LSD.

Could be a limited slip, or it might even just be an open 4-pinion diff. They look very similar.

Open 4-pinion (v6):

factory LSD:

(that is the Tundra diff, but the regular 8" looks very similar)
