I'm looking for some ideas of things to look for. A friend has a mid eighties 4x4 Toyota van. It's a different 4cyl (not the 22re) but looks pretty similar. It runs really poorly and stumbles like it's flooding when it's cold and runs fine when warm. The moment he gives gas when it's cold all hell breaks loose.

Anyone run into something like this? He replaced a cold start valve but has done little else. I thought I'd ask some of you familiar with the older motors in case it's an obvious problem that could save us some diagnosis time.
