Hi, back again, episode 3, or 4.. Can anyone tell me if there are one of those fuel safety shutoff things on my rodeo? I backed out of a parking space yesterday put it in drive and went about ten feet before the engine shut off. it didnt sputter, or give any sign of problems before hand. (was driving for about 20 minutes before it happened.) First thing I noticed is no fuel out of the injectors, which led me to check regular fuzes, then the relay fuses (switched them around with known working ones from heater, A/C etc.) due to the stress of the situation, I did overlook the obvious, listening for the pump to run when the key is turned on but will be doing that as soon as the towing man brings my rodeo home. But would like to see if anyone has any other hints that i may check when it gets here. fyi; the fuel pump was replaced with a new one about 4 years ago. Thanks in advance !!!! Bill

Body Damage is Cool
AS SOON AS YOU GET THE OBVIOUS THINGS CHECKED OUT LET US KNOW WHAT YOU FIND , DO LISTEN FOR THE PMP TO CYCLE WITH KEY ,COULD BE RELAY, FUEL PUMP, OR THE ECM,OIL PRESSURE SW (DUAL ACTION) BUT TO ANSWER YOUR FIRST QUESTION, NO ISUZU DOES NOT USE ANY TYPE OF ENERTIA CUTOFF SW FOR THE FUEL PUMP CONTROL JERRY

Ok, the man brought it home, and for the hell of it, I tried it. It started up like nothing was wrong. Ran for maybe three or four minutes then just shut off again, and would not restart. after it ran, and shut off again, I did listen and could hear the fuel pump coming on when the key was turned. tried several times, and heard the pump every time even though it wouldnt start either time.

Still no fuel at the injectors?
That is a pretty good symptom. Blocked fuel filter? See if fuel comes out of the line from the tank. The pump in the tank should be delivering good flow. I'm not really up on Izuzu gassers, but on other makes a fuel pressure gauge would be placed in line and watched when it quits. Showing my age, I suppose there is a way to get the readout from the ECU as well. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

changed the fuel filter, didnt help. I can still hear the pump running when the key is turned on but nothing at the injectors yet. before I changed it, I tried to start it as soon as i got home from work, it sputtered but that was it. When I took the old fuel filter off, fuel ran out pretty good from both ends, tank and engine side.

Sorry man I'm out of my league here. I don't know anything about the gas fuel injection system on Isuzu. I hope someone jumps in to help you. Is there a second fuel pump on the fuel injection system?

nope, no second fuel pump. Dont be sorry any replies are better than none at all. Just got done lookin around again. THE FUSE BOX UNDER THE HOOD?? if anyone is familiar, I noticed that the "Main Fuse" (80 amp) has some melted plastic near it, and the "clear top" of it, looks like it might have had some heat. Now, a while back I posted another problem, the battery "cooked" could that have been from that? if that fuse is bad, would the engine even turn over? or could that be a culprit. It has two philips head screws holding it in its place. Just another shot in the dark. I really wish I could be on here more to help others rather than be the one having to ask, and again I must say Thank you to all who offer advise !!! Bill.

I belive with that Relay your talking about, the engine should turn over, but not Run, I had a similer problem after I just got my Trooper similer to what your talking about, It just stopped running. First we check the Fuel pump and yes we had to drop the tank with full fuel....., It was WAY to small of a pump and wasnt keeping up and We think It was Vapor Locking. We got the Pump that was the right one and It was much bigger in diameter. Took care of that problem, If you have to drop the tank and it not the pump check that Filter thats on there for junk. Still it wouldnt run, checked that relay along with all of them and replaced them and Bingo, It ran, much better. and it didnt stop running going down the interstate. That relay maybe your problem. I would check that out and Im sure if its melted something is wrong with it.

looked through the manual(actual Isuzu Workshop manual not haynes or chiltons) and a friend of mine looked over the wiring digrams for all that and found that if it were blown (even though it shows signs of heat) most things shouldnt be working, included cigarett lighter which does work. and as he said, yeah, it had heat, but its still in working condition. gonna try and get a tester if i can find one for the injector plugs tomorro to make sure they are getting a signal. I know the pump is right, its been in for over 4 years, bought it straight from Isuzu. as far as teh screen on it in the tank, will have to get a fuel presure guage on there i suppose. but as I stated when changing the inline fuel filter, I did have fuel running out the lines. thanks again.

Im not to familar with the 2.8 v6, I know the basics, If your getting fuel, air, and Spark, in thoery, It should run. BUT with todays engines.... who knows and Obviously your not getting fuel like you are saying, and your on the right track. Anymore, you have to push buttons and slide this deal over then turn the steering wheel this way and hang your arm out the window just to see the odometer. Im glad I dont work In a DealerShip.... I hope you find your Problem.
