Need a Spot
Hello again everyone, im trying to find where the oil pressure relief valve is on my rodeo - 2.6 ltr. Can anyone one help me out here!! Ive had the oil pump off before and couldnt see where it was, other than the two locating "lugs" that stick out from the pump iteslf. My oil pump could also slide in and out say 5mm once i had it off, is that normal??

I dont know if its meant to be on the pump itself or on the block? or oil filter housing? i NEED to check this is working on my vehicle ASAP !

Thankying you all!
Adam.

THE RELIEVE VLV FOR THE OIL PUMP IS ON THE FILTER HOUSING POINTING TOWARD THE ENG MOUNT BRACKET, YOU NEED TO CHECK THAT ROTOR AND OUTER RING ON THAT OIL PUMP, IT SOUNDS LIKE FRO, YOU DESCRIPTION YOU MAY HAVE A 2.3 OIL PUMP IN THERE, AND IT WILL NEVER MAKE THE OIL PRESSURE OR VOLUME YOU NEED ,WITH THE OIL PUMP REMOVED FROM THE BLOCK THE OUTER ROTOR SHOULD BE ALLMOST FLUSH WITH THE FRT EDGE OF THE BLOCK WITHIN ABOUT .010 THOUS, IF IT IS 1/8 INCH OR SO YOU HAVE THE WRONG PUMP ASSY,JERRY

Ok got it, thats Jerry!!! The oil pump outer rotor ring did finish flush with the block, however its the housing with the shaft that has the play in it, bout 5mm, it sort of can slide in and out??

Whats with the two lugs that are on the housing also, the top on looks blocked off on the housing and the block. But the bottom one looks blocked too but theres a gallery in the block coming into it? or is it not blocked, the bottom one on the housing! Im ramblimg on here but i think u know what i mean <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

Regards.
Adam.

HMM I WONDER IF SOMEONE PUT A 2.3 ROTOR IN, AND A 2.6 IMPELLER IN THE BLOCK, THE PINS YOU ARE REFERING TO ARE LOCATING PINS TO LOCATE THE FRT OF THE PMP HOUSING TO THE BLOCK, HOWEVER BEHIND THE SEAL THERE IS A RETURN HOLE AND SMALL PASSAGE CAST IN THE HOUSING THAT WILL LINE UP WITH A RETURN HOLE IN THE BLOCK, MAKE CERTAIN THIS PASSAGE IS NOT BLOCKED , OR IT WILL IMMEDIATELY BLOW THE SEAL RIGHT OUT OF THE BORE. PULL THE OIL PUMP OFF AND HOLD IT UP SIDE DOWN, WITH THE ROTOR POINTING UP, THE ROTOR SHOULD BE FLUSH AGAINST THE PMP BODY, NOW LAY THE IMPELLER FROM THE BLOCK OVER THE ROTOR AND IT SHOULD BE THE EXACT SAME HEIGHT AS THE ROTOR, WITH IN JUST A FEW THOUSANDS OF AN INCH ,INSTALLED CORRCTLY WITH THE CORRECT PARTS THE ROTOR WILL GO INTO THE BLOCK AND GO INTO THE PILOT HOLE JUST CLEARING THE BACK OF THE BORE , 5MM IS A LOT OF CLEARANCE . ONE OTHER THING MAKE CERTAIN THE ROLL PIN THAT GOES THRU THE ROTOR AND DRIVE SHAFT ISN,T BROKEN OR MISSING ,I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS HAPPEN BUT ONE TIME IN A LOT OF YEARS BUT YOU NEVER KNOW .
