Getting the Wheeling Fever
|
I just picked up an 88 4runner SR5 V6, and the t-case wont shift into 4L. I also have an 86 4cyl P/U that i'm parting out, and i'm wondering if the t-case is the same or not.
Thanks in advance

What you should do is study what you have and on this site look at the toyota 4x4 spec... link ther you can find out what you have... http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/faq/parts/And you can decide what you can do or give use more info

The V6 is most likely a forward shift TCase, the 4Cyl is most likely a top shift TCase. You can swap the shift rails from the V6 to make the 4Cyl work. Need to break open both TCases to make it work. Marlin Tech section has diagrams on this. However, if your V6 is an Auto Tranny, I have no idea what it entails.

Might be the shifter is stabbed into the shift rails improperly. Pull out the shifter and see if that is the case.

The 4 cylinder case is gear driven and the V6 case is a chain drive. They have different bolt patterns and spline counts as well. The only way to bolt up a 4 cylinder t-case to a V6 transmission is with an aftermarket adapter.

Ouch, sorry <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif" alt="" />. I got 4 and 6 cyl confused with Top and Forward. Ditto above.
