Getting the Wheeling Fever
What have you all done to fix the gear shifter problem when doing a 3" body lift? I cut and welded the two 3" spacers into my shifters like the kit said to do, but I was still unable to replace the shift boot and center plastic. I had to cut some extra metal to engage my bottom gears and cut up a rubber floormat to go over the hole. The directions in the kit make it sound so easy.

Roll Me Over
sometimes its necessary to heat/bend the shifters after welding in the extension to fine tune the shift.

I bent the tranny shifter a little at a time in a press until it worked. The t-case shifter I just left as-is and cut some metal out of the floor and some of the rubber out of the thick boot. That was with a 1.25" BL... so I'd expect greater measures necessary with 3".

HereÆs a little trick that has worked quite well for the boot itself on mine:

(Once you have the shifter lever positions worked out...)
Invert the two raised sections that surround the shifter levers so that they both point downwards. --- Secure the boot in this inverted position just below the thick section of the two shafts as best as you can, making sure to allow for their required range of movementà

Then secure the boot itself to the body, affixing it all of the way around the recess opening so that it doesnÆt pop out of position. --- I used heavy-duty Black Gaffing Tape for all-of-the-above, and it worked like a charm.

(I probably ought to add this tip to my Body Lift Write-Up)

The bad news is, if youÆve already cut into the recess (or the boot!), this might not work as well for you as it did for me.

Hope it helps <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Body Damage is Cool
I had to ever so slightly notch out the rearward Passenger corner) section of the shifter opening and I had to discard the inner boot. BTW, what's "gaffing" tape?

Black Gaffing Tape û it's heavy-duty Duct TapeÆs brutish, a$$-whoopinÆ big brother <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Mostly it is used by professional stage workers to assemble and/or affix lighting displays, power cord assemblies, sound systemsà you name it û the stuff has a million uses and is virtually indestructible!

I scored 12 rolls (for THREE Dollars!) when a local department store went out of business...
But IÆm now down to less than 2 <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />
