Getting the Wheeling Fever
<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Alright my 93 ZJ is acting up again. It is acting like it is stuck in half way in gear between 3rd or 4th and overdrive. I had the tranny rebuilt and added a shift kit back in June of 04 and have put about 30k on it since the rebuild. It acts like it is stuck in or out of lockup, I don't totally understand it. I haven't done any serious wheeling. The tranny is a 46RH.

Let me know if there is any other info needed to maybe help out with this.

Thanks
Tim

Trail try to give a better description.. Does it stay in gear and not shift up? Does the engine run faster than it should in a certain gear? Does it leave one gear and not get into another? Try to help us a bit here, Ok?
If it seems to be slipping I would suggest a check of the fluid level first and if it is full then a filter change.. Filters with some tash in them cause it to not like going into the next gear.

Ok, When it did shift into overdrive and at 60 mph the rpm would be about 1700 and now when it hangs and I am doing 60 the rpms are 2000. It will shift through 1 - 3 ok, but when it wants to go into overdrive it may shift out and then like 1/2 shift back. Then the rpms will raise. I have checked the fluid and it was ok. Did not change the filter. I took it to a local shop and they said something about it not going or shifting out of lock up ( however that goes, don't fully understand) If you push the button and take it completely out of OD, then press the button to allow it shift into OD then it may shift. I hope this helps.

More detailed info on problem. I had a friend check the trans operation and he says it is shifting up through all gears but it does not engage the lock up Torque Converter Clutch in either 3rd or OD gears.

Is there an electrical test to see if the TCM is sending the signal to turn on the TCC solenoid on ?
What is the failure rate for this solenoid.

Trailboy... The rate is once for each solenoid!
